Roddy on right path with Beavers

Roddy on right path with Beavers
University of Maine at Farmington golf coach Bob Timmons watched Jake Roddy play for Messalonskee High School last year and liked what he saw.
“He comes to the game with a lot of maturity and a lot of talent,” Timmons said. “I contacted him and told him he could still have a competitive golf career (at UMF).”
Timmons also introduced Roddy to recently graduated senior and Cheap Golf Clubs team member Reid Bond, who is a state trooper, a profession Roddy plans to pursue.
“He gave him a path to follow,” Timmons said.
Roddy and the Beavers will play their first match this weekend at the Bowdoin Invitational, and Timmons has yet to designate the five players who will travel to the match. Roddy was reluctant this week to make the call before the coach did, but he’s had a strong preseason.
“Jacob will certainly be going to that,” Timmons said.
This summer, Roddy worked at Belgrade Lakes, his home course in high school, and played whenever he could. He picked up a playing tip from former Augusta Country Club like R11 Driver pro Pete Hatfield which helped his game, he said.”He helped my on my grip and weakened it up a little bit,” Roddy said. “I was hooking the ball off the tee.”
Consistency off the tee, Timmons said, has been one of Roddy’s strengths so far. Roddy was nothing if not consistent at Messalonskee where he posted a 39 stroke average for nine holes last fall. He won 10 of his individual matches in helping the Eagles to a 10-2 record and was named Kennebec Journal Golfer of the Year.
Roddy played Sunday River for the first time over the weekend and is still learning Ping K15 Irons the course.
“It’s not much of a home-course advantage,” he said.Timmons has little doubt Roddy will adjust.
He’s noticed a few differences in college golf already. For one thing the regular-season matches are 18 holes instead of nine. For another, they’re decided by stroke play rather than match play, which doesn’t give players the luxury of a bad hole.
Roddy said Timmons emphasizes course management during practice and has players concentrate on three-hole goals instead of 18. One of the disadvantages over high school golf is practicing on one course and playing on another. The Beavers practice at nearby Wilson Lake, a nine-hole course in Wilton, but play their matches at 18-hole Sunday River in Bethel.

Patriot Golf Day raises more than $20000
Since 1916, The PGA of America’s mission has been twofold: to establish and elevate the standards of the profession and to grow interest and participation in the game of golf.
By establishing and elevating the standards of the golf profession through Cheap Golf Clubs world-class education, career services, marketing and research programs, the Association enables PGA Professionals to maximize their performance in their respective career paths and showcases them as experts in the game and in the multi-billion dollar golf industry.

The PGA of America brand represents the very best in golf.
With an extraordinary showcase of pageantry and moving patriotic displays of all things red, white and blue, the 5th Annual Patriot Golf Day Weekend at PGA Village in Port St. Lucie was a stunning show, as a preliminary total of more than $20,000 was raised for the Folds of Honor Foundation from nearly 1,000 total participants over Labor Day Weekend. Patriot Golf Day events at more than 4,400 registered PGA facilities nationwide benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation, which Ping G20 Driver provides scholarships to families of military veterans disabled or killed in action, and is supported by The PGA of America and USGA.
“Patriot Golf Day is a celebration of what has taken place over decades of the history of The PGA of America,” said Steranka, who traced The PGA’s historic connection to the military back to World War I, when PGA members raised funds to provide an ambulance to support the troops. “This year, we will cross over $10 million raised for the Folds of Honor Foundation through Patriot Golf Day, which has provided more than 2,000 scholarships for the families of military veterans, and The PGA of America is delighted to take part.”
On Saturday, the traditional John Shimkonis Memorial Medal Golf Tournament with Ping K15 Irons at PGA Golf Club was held in honor of the first PGA Professional to sacrifice his life while serving his country, hosted a field of more than 100 participants. Martin Kaymer is aiming to defend his KLM Open title

Martin Kaymer is aiming to defend his KLM Open title
The 26-year-old German has Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy to contend with at the KLM Open – and they, like him, do not want to let another victory chance slip away after going close in Switzerland last weekend. He said: “It definitely feels like I’ll win again in the next couple of weeks. I like the course and I often bring TaylorMade R11 Driver with me, it can drive there from home.”
Kaymer’s four-stroke victory last September came in his first appearance after becoming a major champion and with his confidence at an all-time high. But he returns to the same Hilversum course now having gone over seven months without a win. That looked set to end as the world number three stood over a two-foot birdie putt on Sunday. Hole it and he would have been two ahead with four to play, but he missed it and ended up losing by four to Thomas Bjorn.
McIlroy has something he likes having around him too. His Twitter site has a picture he took on the flight over of the US Open trophy in its own seat, complete with safety belt on. “It has to bring R11 Driver go everywhere with me these days,” the Northern Irishman tweeted.
He came third in the European Masters after leading early in the final round, but was encouraged by the fact he had no problems with the right arm he injured against a tree root at the USPGA Championship last month.
Westwood also had a share of top spot for a while on Sunday, but then fell back to sixth and with Donald finishing joint-third in America the gap between them at the top widened a bit further. Here I will recommend you TaylorMade R11 Driver for Sale.
Back in action this week after injury lay-offs are France’s Thomas Levet and Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts. Levet fractured his shin and needed surgery after jumping in the lake celebrating his French Open victory at the start of July and two weeks later, just before The Open, China Open champion Colsaerts was in a scooter crash and hurt his elbow.

Roosters Braith Anasta has rediscovered his passion for golf

Roosters Braith Anasta has rediscovered his passion for golf
Have you ever heard of Braith Anasta? He won a grand final with the Bulldogs, played for NSW and Australia, and was one game away from leading the Sydney Roosters to premiership glory last year. But despite his sparkling rugby league credentials, Anasta will be battling to keep his cool when he stands on the first tee of the NSW PGA at Wollongong later this year.
A former top junior golfer, Anasta rediscovered his passion for the game about 18 months ago.He has trimmed his handicap to plus-one and is taking his invitation to play alongside the pros seriously.
“I’ve never been able to just concentrate on golf, so I’ve got a couple of months to focus on it. I’d usually get away in the pre-season, but I’ve known this is coming up so I’ll be sticking around and hitting the golf course. I need to put the practice in to make sure I’m competitive.”It’ll be good to experience it and see how those guys treat it and how they prepare and get around the golf course.
“It’s a totally different field for me and it’ll be a totally different experience.”While Anasta has fantasised about a similar career change when he eventually hangs up his football boots, he knows it would mean making a lot of sacrifices.
“It’s probably a little disrespectful to the professionals and getting ahead of myself, because there’s a lot of hard work and you have to prove yourself first. I’d pretty much have to dedicate my whole time to golf to give it a real crack, and at this point I’m probably not able to do that.
“I grew up on a golf course and played with some guys who are doing pretty well for themselves these days, but I ended up getting a contract with Souths and didn’t really play golf for a good 10 years or so.
“But golf’s always been a release for me. You can go out there and relax and have some time to yourself. I love the competitive nature of it and the mental aspect, and just knowing it’s on your shoulders and no-one else’s. It’s very different to rugby league in that wayAnasta plans on practising almost daily in the countdown to the NSW PGA in November.

Tate focused on getting back in swing of things soon

Tate focused on getting back in swing of things soon
ALAN Tate has targeted a Christmas return to action after speaking for the first time about the golf buggy crash which left him with a broken leg.Tate was ruled out for up to six months by Swansea City’s medical staff after fracturing his tibia in an accident at Gower Golf Club two and a half weeks ago.
Swansea’s vice-captain has revealed how he initially tried to walk following the incident, and suggested he would be okay now had he not tried to bail out of the buggy. The injury, comfortably the most serious of Tate’s career, is a cruel blow for a player who has put in the hard yards in his bid to earn a crack at the Premier League.
But Tate, who left hospital yesterday after a fortnight under close supervision, insists he is already looking forward to his comeback game.
“I’m not feeling sorry for myself or anything like that because that’s when you start suffering,” he says.”I feel a bit unlucky for this to happen this season, but I’ve got good people around me and all I’m thinking about is getting back playing again.
Tate had originally been released from hospital soon after his initial treatment, but he went back in because of fears that he might do further damage to his leg with young son Brodey and the family dog running around at home.
The plaster has been off a couple of times, and the leg is feeling stronger already. An early morning round of golf three Sundays ago all went wrong on Gower’s 12th hole, when the buggy carrying Tate and a mate started skidding down a hill.

Hendry issues show his confidence to Tauranga contenders

Hendry issues show his confidence to Tauranga contenders
North Harbour professional Michael Hendry has never lacked confidence, and the three-time winner on the Charles Tour sounded a warning to his rivals ahead of the Tauranga Open which begins tomorrow.
“I am feeling really good. When I using the Burner 2.0 Irons. I am hitting it better than I ever have before in tournament golf in my life,” said the 31-year-old, who finished runner-up to Ben Campbell in 2010.
“I go into this week with a few changes but I am feeling confident in my game. With the way I am hitting it, I know I will get opportunities to score well especially using the Ping g15 Driver Best Price.”
Hendry headlines the field for the second event. He has a good record on the tour since his breakthrough at the 2009 Tauranga Open when he defeated Australian Peter Fowler.
Another to watch is Gareth Paddison, who combined with Hendry to win the World Cup of Golf qualifier in Malaysia. The pair are among the most experienced players in the 72-hole stroke play event.
The field includes 2003 New Zealand Open champion Mahal Pearce and Muriwai Open runner-up Hamish Robertson seeking their first win on the Charles Tour and 2008 champion Mark Purser looking for a turnaround in form. Recommend you buy TaylorMade Burner SuperFast Driver at our store. Perennial contenders Jared Pender, Joshua Carmichael and Brenden Stuart are also teeing it up for the $40,000 purse.
Hendry expected the shift from May to September would present a challenge.
“It should play a lot tougher. The conditions in May are really fine and warm with a lot of run. At this time of year the course will play longer with wetter fairways and in the latter rounds I expect the greens will be bumpier just because the ground underneath will be wetter.

Justin Rose didn't join the belly brigade

Justin Rose didn’t join the belly brigade

After admittedly struggling on the greens most of the year, Justin Rose turned up with a new toy in hand at the practice area on Tuesday at the BMW Championship.

He’d just picked up a brand-new belly putter, he always like to use Ping K15 Irons, though he barely knew which end of it to hold. So he spent a few moments watching the other belly-putter purveyors using the popular device as he tried to figure  out whether he was brave enough to use it in live play.

When the first round came, he left it in the trunk.Rose shot one of the more impressive rounds of the season with an 8-under 63, which was 8.75 strokes better than the field average in the first round at difficult Cog Hill. Recommend you Ping G15 Driver for sale at our online store.

Rose, a popular Englishman, had nine one-putt greens and made a series of short-range testers in the five-foot range to maintain his two-shot lead over Webb Simpson and Mark Wilson, both two-time winners this season.

Rose ranks 111th in the tour’s newest stat, strokes gained putting, Taylormade R9 Driver for Sale is really cheap and nice driver. which translates rather brusquely to this — compared to his peers, he’s been below the tour average this season. Small wonder he was investigating the belly model, all the rage of late. Four of the last five tour events have been won by players using longer putters.”I’ve got to try and represent the short putter out here,” Rose laughed afterward. “I probably did get a few benefits from trying it.”

Some players, like past BMW winner Camilo Villegas, use the belly model on the practice green as an instructional tool, with the notion that it helps them with the traditional-length model. So Rose might be onto something.

It wasn’t like the rest of his game was lacking, either. He hit all 14 fairways and only missed two greens, totals that topped the field in both categories.

He also halted a rather nagging problem that has dogged him much of the season — he was ranked 111th by using of the Ping G20 Irons in opening-round scoring average. He shaved 8.4 strokes off his Thursday average.

“I’ve been sort of fighting my way back into tournaments,” he said. Now he can enjoy running out front for a while.

Trevino to host Longview clinic

Trevino to host Longview clinic
Golf legend Lee Trevino still has a passion for the game that made him famous, but when he talks with the younger generation of players the game itself takes a back seat to education.Trevino will be in Longview on Monday to host a noon clinic before participating in the Texas Golf Legends Pro-Am – an event to help raise money for the First Tee of the Pineywoods program.
The clinic is set for noon at The Challenge at Oak Forest, with the pro-am to follow at approximately 1 p.m.Trevino, who won six majors during his career — including winning the British Open twice, Recommend you buy TaylorMade R11 Irons at our online store, the U.S. Open twice and the PGA twice — is the headliner at the event, but he said all of the credit goes to the local people putting on the event and running the First Tee Program.
“The thing they did in Longview that was smart was getting Roy Pace involved,” Trevino said. “We played on the (PGA) tour together. He’s a very good friend, and that’s why I’m coming and a lot of the other touring pros are coming.”Trevino is excited about playing in Longview, but is also looking forward to the clinic so he can discuss his other passion. …education.
“Golf is the greatest sport in the world,” said Trevino, who was the first man to ever break 70 in all four rounds of a U.S. Open (1968) and he was named PGA Player of the Year and the Associated Press and sports Illustrated Athlete of the Year in 1971. Do you know Taylormade R9 Driver for Sale?He was on three Ryder Cup teams and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1981.
Trevino said the odds of a player making it big in golf are slim.
“It’s great to be a golfer, and it’s great to have a passion for the game but you better have a passion for education, too,” Trevino said. “I likes using R9 Driver.Very few people make it in golf. Even then, I tell my son I don’t care how good a player you are you are just one slammed door, one hand in the wrong spot and having a door slammed on your hand, from never playing again. Then what happens? What are your options? Get that degree, then play all the golf you want. That’s what I try to instill in these young people.”
“I think it’s wonderful what they’re doing,” Trevino said. “We (PGA players) aren’t the heroes. Too many people are too quick to call guys like us heroes. The guys they need to thank are guys like Roy Pace and the local guys. They do it year-round. We’re going to be there for about six hours, and we’re glad to do it, but Roy Pace and his staff are the ones who need to be commended. I take my hat off to them.”
